Slater Primary School is a small school, which is situated in the heart of Leicester. The school has above the national average percentage of pupils who are EAL or have free school meals. Last academic year, with support from Alderman Newton’s Educational Foundation, we took the Year 6 children on an overnight residential to London. This was so the children could see, experience and appreciate some important aspects of our capital city.
On the residential the children visited Hyde Park, saw some important sites, had a ride on the London Eye and attended an excellent theatre production. All of the children enjoyed their experiences of the residential and understood more about their capital city. The children learnt key facts about important landmarks in London and took a sightseeing tour.
Most of the children who participated in the residential were on free school meals and their families would not have been able to afford to allow the children to attend without the support of Alderman Newton’s Educational Foundation. The donation helped keep the costs down to a minimum, so that we were able to support all of the families involved.
The Foundation was a pleasure to deal with, with a simple form and support over the phone to make the process as smooth as possible. Both the school and all of the families involved were very grateful to the Foundation for their generous donation.
